RECAP: HAWAIIAN MUSIC, HULA, LEI MAKING & MORE AT JOE RECCA’S HOOLAULEA

Hula dancers in purple skirts and leis performing at a Surfjack Hotel event

In conjunction with Aloha Festivals’ Waikiki’s 66th Annual Hoolaulea, the Surfjack recently held our own celebration of all things Hawaiian with Joe Recca and friends. We couldn’t think of anyone more fitting to serve as master of ceremonies, as Recca is a beloved talent in Hawaiian song, dance and history.

There was hula dancing, lei making, coconut leaf weaving and so much more. Plus, Mahina & Sun’s hosted an island style feast while Na Hoa and Jeff Rasmussen serenaded the crowd with their Hawaiian melodies. The day’s raffle and door prizes benefitted Hālau Nā Kamalei o Lililehua, an organization that perpetuates Hawaiian culture.

Photographer Kainoa Reponte captured the moments. Below, just a few of our favorites.
