Join us for a book signing and panel discussion featuring visiting James Beard award-winning Chef Vivian Howard and James Beard award-nominated Chef Ed Kenney.
From 6-7pm, attendees have the option to purchase a signed copy of Chef Howard’s debut cookbook—a New York Times Best-Seller—Deep Run Roots: Stories and Recipes from My Corner of the South. For every book purchased, $45 will be donated to Les Dames d’Escoffier.
From 7-8pm, listen in as Chef Howard and Chef Kenney talk about today’s need for farm-to-table food. The conversation will be moderated by Jo McGarry Curran & Haley Matson-Mathes.
Small bites from select recipes in Vivian’s cookbook will be served by Mahina & Sun’s.
ABOUT THE PANELISTS:
Chef Vivian Howard is a member of Les Dames d’Escoffier, is a James Beard-award winning chef, and star of the PBS show A Chef’s Life. She is known for her Southern cooking at her Kinston, North Carolina restaurant, Chef and the Farmer.
Chef Ed Kenney is a James Beard-award nominated chef, the star of the hit PBS show Family Ingredients, a leader in the Hawaiian food community, and a successful restaurateur. His restaurants include Town, Mud Hen Water, Kaimuki Superette, and Mahina & Sun’s (located at The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club).
ABOUT THE MODERATORS:
Jo McGarry Curran is a former food writer turned restaurant advisor. She is the founder of MoJo The Business of Food and host of Radio MoJo, a weekly radio hour and podcast conversation with chefs, farmers, winemakers and artisans about the food scene in Hawaii and beyond.
Hayley Matson-Mathes is President of Les Dames d’Escoffier International and Executive Director of the Hawaii Culinary Education Foundation. Les Dames d’Escoffier International is a non-profit that raises money to fund scholarships and mentorships for women entering the culinary arts and hospitality industry.
