The 2nd Annual Bar Czar Invitational: A Celebration of Local Talent and Flavors
Raise your glasses, cocktail enthusiasts! We’re back with our 2nd Annual Bar Czar Invitational Competition at Mahina & Sun’s, where local flair meets world-class mixology. Our bar program, led by Executive Bar Czar Chris Taibi, is a vibrant blend of New York edge and Hawaiian soul. A New York native with years of experience shaking things up in the industry, Chris brings his unique style and technique to every cocktail. Along with his talented team, he’s dedicated to crafting unforgettable drinks that highlight local ingredients and the spirit of the islands.
This year, we’re thrilled to partner with some incredible sponsors, including Kōhana Rum, Kupu Gin & Whiskey, Waikulu Agave Spirit, and Okolehao, to make this event truly exceptional. Expect 12 Oahu local mixers from restaurants like Yours Truly, El Cielo, and more. Our competition features two drink categories that showcase both local and personal pride: “Taste of Hawaii,” a staple category that celebrates the unique flavors of the islands, and “Hometown Sweetheart,” where competitors bring their distinctive style and hometown flavors to the table.
“This event is focused on paying attention to the best and brightest local bartenders in town,” says Chris, Executive Bar Czar. “We’re cultivating a culture that appreciates the art of making cocktails and recognizes the incredible talent within our own community.”
Our Mahina and Sun’s team is passionate about changing the old-school approach of inviting mainland entities to define local cocktail lists. Instead, they aim to elevate the talent that exists right here at home. “It’s important to shine a light on and bring together the local products and bartenders that we believe in,” Chris, emphasizes. At Mahina & Sun’s, it’s all about celebrating our community, one perfectly crafted cocktail at a time.
